#CARVENSEENBY Benjamin Seidler

For its Advent Calendar, Carven gave carte blanche to 20 artists, each of whom was asked to revisit a key item in the 2018 cruise collection. For patchwork print dress, Serge Ruffieux commissioned Benjamin Seidler, a designer and illustrator known for his parodic collage art. Who are you ?
I'm Benjamin Seidler, 31 years old. I'm British but live in New York. I am an accessories designer by profession but I have always illustrated, starting my career in newspapers (The International Herald Tribune) and then working for various magazines and fashion houses. My career really took off after I started experimenting with collage, mixing fashion and pop culture.
What does this pre-Christmas period mean to you ?
I usually look forward to going to my house in the North of England and sitting by the fire. It's a very traditional Christmas set up - a house in the middle of the forest, lots of presents under a big tree, big roast dinners. This year I am changing the formula and traveling around Rajasthan for two weeks over Christmas, visiting palaces. I am hoping it will be adventurous and romantic.
What would be your ultimate artistic dream for the year 2018 ?
As an illustrator and designer, I'm always designing with someone else's aesthetic in mind. I would like to start my own brand with my own aesthetic - and i would love for it to be a huge success!
